Duration: 2 Day Workshop  (10am - 4:30pm each day)

Over this two-day class, you’ll create a colourful embroidered iris, beginning by painting your own fabric background. You’ll have the freedom to choose your own colours, creating a unique painted base before adding the embroidery over the top.

Once your fabric is painted, you’ll explore a mix of goldwork, threadwork and beading techniques to embellish the iris. You’ll learn how to combine different threads, metallic materials and beads to add texture, detail and dimension to the design. The painted background becomes part of the embroidery, allowing the colour and stitch work to work together rather than creating a separate background and design. You’ll experiment with layering techniques and different materials to create a richly embellished finish.

This two-day class is a great opportunity to combine painting with embroidery, while exploring a variety of goldwork, threadwork and beading techniques to create your own individual iris design.

What You’ll Need to Provide 

- All materials and tools will be provided - Course kit materials may vary slightly from those shown in sample imagery, however all alternatives are chosen to closely reflect the intended techniques and final results.  

- If you wish you are welcome to bring your own mug for refreshments and your own embroidery kit, though this is completely optional and not required.
